Calling all car connoisseurs!
JOSS was first established back in 1997 by founder Matt Thomas who had just returned from his automotive work in Europe. Upon renting a modest factory in Warragul, country Victoria, the project got under way with the support of close friends and family.
The sole aim of the business was produce a globally competitive supercar that was to be based in Australia. At this time there was and still is, very little supercar representation in the southern hemisphere. This was to be an opportunity to showcase local engineering and manufacture.
In early 2004, Melbourne Motorshow directors invited JOSS to launch its first prototype test vehicle the JT1, at its upcoming show. The JOSS JT1 took the show by storm and created a large amount public following as well as receiving six orders and 40 expressions of interest.
After acquiring his bachelor of Arts in Industrial Design (majoring in Automotive Design) in 1994, Matt shifted to the Europe to gain much needed experience in the automotive sector. During the next years Matt worked for such companies as Bentley, Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, VW and eventually in the aero department for Jackie Stewarts F1 team and later Lead Design Modeller for BMW.
To make a globally competitive supercar, that would compete with the big manufacturers, JOSS needed to engaged the very best engineers, race mechanics and manufacturing personnel. Many of the JOSS team members had substantial Formula One, Le Mans or V8 supercar racing backgrounds. This was essential to build a vehicle that would produce McLaren F1 comparable performance.
